Biographical information?

Karl Wirsum
American, born 1939

Wirsum, a lifetime resident of Chicago, received his BA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1961, and is most commonly recognized as a pioneer in the Imagist movement of Chicago artists. His art makes use of unusual visual devices found in comic books and the imagery of other low-art forms such as tattoos and cheap magazine advertisement. His figures are often robotic, mischievous, frenzied, or mad. Wirsum has been an adjunct professor of painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since 1972 and has received several commissions including Chicago's Midway Airport, the Commonwealth Edison Dearborn substation building in downtown Chicago and a mural for The First National Bank of Chicago.
